2022 US Midterm elections: Becca Balint Make History, becomes First woman to represent Vermont

State Senator According to VTDigger, Becca Balint, a Democrat from Windham, has won the contest for Vermont’s lone U.S. House seat.

With Balint’s victory, Vermont now aligns with the rest of the country. Only Vermont had never elected a woman to its congressional representation prior to Tuesday.

 

The Republican nominee and self-described independent Liam Madden was defeated by the Brattleboro Democrat. By 10 p.m., the Secretary of State’s Office reported that more than 60% of the ballots had been counted, with Balint leading Madden 59%-28% and Libertarian nominee Ericka Redic receiving 4% of the vote.

 

Tuesday night, Madden called Balint to offer his resignation, according to Natalie Silver, Balint’s campaign manager.

Balint will take up the lone House seat held by Vermont’s Democrat U.S. Rep. Peter Welch. Welch moved aside so he could run.
