CHAPTER ONE/INTRODUCTION
The more than fifty nations that make up the comparatively large continent of Africa are made up of over a hundred languages and ethnic groupings. Each nation also has its own tribes, history, culture, and customs.
Before colonization, Africa had a history, but as soon as the Europeans came, things started to alter. The sense of continuity and unity among the different African societies was completely destroyed when Africans who had previously lived in an unified civilization were divided up into separate tribes (Yves, 2014, 1).
The Igbos were the most well-known ethnic group on the continent before Africans were divided into many ethnic groups. The bulk of the Igbo people in Nigeria were centered in the East and lived in sparsely populated regions. The Igbo society encourages its members to pursue their own achievements.
The Igbo language, sometimes known as Ibo, is one of the most widely spoken in modern Nigeria. It attracted attention on a global scale thanks to a number of well-known writers, notably Chinua Achebe, who is considered as the father of African literature.
Things Fall Apart, the first book by Chinua Achebe, one of the most well-known writers of African literature, was published in 1958 and illustrates the reality of Nigerian society both before and after colonization.
