AN EVALUATION OF OCCUPATIONAL CHOICE AMONG WOMEN IN RURAL AREAS OF EBONYI STATE

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to investigate OCCUPATIONAL CHOICE AMONG WOMEN IN RURAL AREAS OF EBONYI STATE The study utilized a qualitative methodology and a sample size of fourteen (14) women was recruited at random from ten (10) occupational categories within the Ebonyi state. These women were interviewed face to face using an interview guide and life narratives as research tools. A content analysis was conducted based on the study’s objectives.

The availability of financial assistance to help women finance their education has been identified as the most critical factor influencing women’s educational performance in the Ebonyi state Parents impact their daughters’ choices of topics that lead to certain jobs. As a result, more education is required for professions such as medicine and law. The findings also revealed that factors such as parental support and existing role models in a woman’s life might have an impact on her decision to seek a post-graduate degree. According to the conclusions of the study, some women are content with whatever level of education they have acquired early in their life because they lack the desire and motivation to pursue a higher education.

The gender equality and advocacy agenda, according to the study, should be addressed at an early stage in children’s development in order to increase comprehension and obtain support for Gender Equality Policies. To address the issue of gender indoctrination early on, gender programs should be integrated in school curricula.
