The number of people who have diabetes mellitus (DM) is consistently on the rise. The high rates of morbidity and death caused by diabetes indicate a developing health concern on a global scale. Type 2 diabetes accounts for about 90 percent of all of these cases (Al-Qazaz et al., 2011). Diabetes was estimated to affect roughly 463 million people in the globe in 2019, making it approximately 9.3 percent of the population. This number is projected to increase to 10.2 percent (578 million people) by 2030, 10.9 percent by 2030, and 10.9 percent by 2030. in the year 2045, there will be 700 million people. The prevalence is much higher in urban regions (10.8%), in comparison to rural areas (7.2%) (Saeedi et al., 2019). According to estimates provided by the World Health Organization, 1.5 million people lost their lives to diabetes-related complications in 2012. An additional 2.2 million people passed away as a result of having blood glucose levels that were higher than what is considered to be ideal, which increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and other ailments. (Organization, 2016). Around 2 million Iraqis, or 7.43 percent of the country’s total population, were diagnosed with diabetes in 2007, marking the year when the country’s diabetes pandemic reached epidemic proportions (Mansour, Wanoose, Hani, Abed- Alzahrea, & Wanoose, 2008). People who have diabetes have a significantly increased risk of developing a variety of serious health complications; a lack of adequate glycemic control may really have a negative impact on a number of organs. The most common factors that lead to uncontrolled blood glucose levels include cardiovascular diseases, eyesight loss, kidney disease, and amputations of lower limbs. Patients absolutely have to take their prescriptions as prescribed if they want to cut down on the likelihood of further diabetes complications occurring. Anti-diabetic therapy, screening for diabetes problems as soon as feasible, diagnosis, supporting a diet that is balanced, doing regular checkups, and education about diabetic wellness are all necessary for reducing diabetic complications (Yazew, Walle, & Azagew, 2019).
In conclusion, the purpose of this thesis research was to evaluate the most recent information that was accessible on an overview of
Diabetes mellitus, adherence to treatment, patient satisfaction, diabetic self-care activity, and the relationship between some parameters: Hba1c, creatinine clearance, Triglyceride and cholesterol with adherence, in addition to adherence to drug therapy, patient satisfaction, and diabetic self-care activity. In addition, we test the hypothesis to see whether or not there is a connection between specific measures, such as Hba1c, creatinine, Triglyceride, and cholesterol, and the patient’s adherence to their prescriptions, as well as some demographic characteristics.
