IMPACT OF INTERNET COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY IN PORT OPERATIONS IN NIGERIA

ABSTRACT

The primary purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of ICT on port operations at the apapa port. It describes how to utilize ICT to keep these heinous crimes from disrupting our operations at Tin Can Island, Lagos, Nigeria. The study employed a cross-sectional survey using a validated structured questionnaire as a data collection method. A mean table was used to illustrate the data, while a frequency table and a basic percentage were used to examine each questionnaire item. The study discovered major roadblocks and solutions to the usage of ICT facilities for crime detection. Metal detectors, biometric finger print identity systems, electronic detectors, bomb detectors, automotive trackers, faraday cages, and phone monitoring are just a few of the technologies available.

Customs’ understanding and use of current tools; ineffective operation of available facilities; lack of deployment of newer technologies; Customs’ view on the use of certain ICT tools for criminal detection, and so on. According to the study’s conclusions, the government should work together as quickly as possible to make necessary ICT tools available in Tin Can Island Port Apapa Lagos Nigeria in order to ensure the port’s safety.
