CHAPTER ONE/INTRODUCTION
People acquire a variety of talents and abilities at school so they may benefit both themselves and society at large. In essence, the school acts as the society’s human resource center and is where the values and customs of the community are passed down from one generation to the next. In order for the community to advance and grow, particularly in this era of globalization, the school’s mission is to produce suitable indigenous labor for developmental activities and the foundations of societal needs and aspirations. Additionally, among other things, one of the roles of schools is to generate and maintain knowledge on current issues for the benefit of human society’s progress, unification, and development. Abubakar (2009).
On the other hand, education is essential for both an individual’s social mobility and the socioeconomic growth of any country. Every other educational endeavor is built on a secondary school education. In the same spirit, Maduewesi (2005) asserts that a solid secondary education is a prerequisite to all other forms of education. Children require a solid secondary education since it serves as a springboard for everything that a person may do via education. Secondary education is cited in the National Policy on Education (NPE) (2005) as being crucial to the overall system’s success or failure. The secondary education goals emphasize striking a balance between physical and intellectual development.

Students have higher expectations for their school and teachers. It should be noted that education is the instrument for social change and the parameter that develops and improves the intellectual and moral abilities of children, proving the importance of teachers in the teaching and learning processes by providing their students with the proper and adequate training to enhance production of competent individuals that will promote desired development of any nation. The 2004 National Policy on Education, which states that “no educational system may rise above the quality of its teachers,” reflects the significance of the teacher in education at all levels.

It is crucial that the teacher sees instruction as an effort on his part to impart what he has learned to his students. A growing body of research indicates that schools can have an impact, and that teachers are largely responsible for that impact.

As a result, the study’s goal is to determine how teachers’ attitudes toward their jobs affect students’ attitudes toward learning and academic performance in senior secondary school. These demonstrate the critical role teachers play in ensuring effective teaching and learning at all educational levels.
Teachers are very important in the teaching and learning process, according to Olaofe (1997) and Maduewesi (2005). Government and society believe that teachers have a significant impact on raising the standard of education.
There are different teacher programs in place to improve the quality of teachers with regard to their teaching subject because education is provided at all levels.
On the other hand, teaching is a deliberate attempt by an experienced person to impart knowledge and skills to a less experienced person through a procedure that is morally and pedagogically acceptable. This implies that various conditions must exist before teaching can occur, including: mastery of the subject matter, classroom management, time management, use of appropriate teaching materials, teaching method, etc., and all these depend on the teachers attitude and approach.
Regrettably, it is a well-known reality that Nigeria’s educational standards are declining. With secondary school pupils unable to articulate proper sentences and university graduates doing poorly in their fields of study, Olaofe (1997). (1997). Can the attitude and experience of the instructors be blamed for these issues? Since not all social studies instructors in certain of our high schools have formal training in the subject. So, it is necessary to look at secondary school pupils’ performance in social studies. Several seasoned instructors are known to quit the classroom to pursue other careers. Might the attitude of secondary school instructors be a contributing factor in the issue with student success in social studies? So, the purpose of this research is to ascertain how instructors’ attitudes about their jobs affect students’ attitudes toward learning and academic achievement in senior secondary school.
