The effect of naira redesign on the academic achievement among Students

Introduction

Naira is the official currency of Nigeria, and it has undergone several redesigns over the years. The most recent redesign took place in 2019, which involved the introduction of new banknotes with enhanced security features and the removal of some old banknotes from circulation.

Academic achievement, on the other hand, is generally measured by a student’s grades or academic performance in a particular academic setting, such as a university.

The redesign of the Naira currency have a direct impact on the academic achievement of Nnamdi Azikiwe University students. However, changes in the currency affect the broader economic and financial environment in which the students live, work, and study.

For example, if the redesign of the Naira leads to increased stability and confidence in the currency, it could have positive effects on the economy and financial markets, which could in turn create more opportunities for students and improve their prospects for academic and professional success.

Conversely, if the redesign of the Naira leads to economic instability or uncertainty, it could have negative effects on the financial well-being of students and their families, which could create obstacles to academic achievement.

In summary, while it is unlikely that the redesign of the Naira currency would have a direct impact on the academic achievement of Nnamdi Azikiwe University students, it could indirectly affect their financial and economic environment, which could have consequences for their academic success.

Objectives

  1. To investigate the awareness and perception of Nnamdi Azikiwe University students towards the recent redesign of the Naira currency.
  2. To examine the impact of the Naira redesign on the spending behavior of Nnamdi Azikiwe University students.
  3. To determine if the Naira redesign has affected the academic performance of Nnamdi Azikiwe University students.
  4. To provide recommendations for the government and other stakeholders on how to improve the implementation of currency redesigns in Nigeria.

Research Questions

  1. Are Nnamdi Azikiwe University students aware of the recent redesign of the Naira currency?
  2. What is the perception of Nnamdi Azikiwe University students towards the recent redesign of the Naira currency?
  3. Has the Naira redesign affected the spending behavior of Nnamdi Azikiwe University students?
  4. Is there a relationship between the Naira redesign and the academic performance of Nnamdi Azikiwe University students?
  5. What measures can the government and other stakeholders implement to improve the implementation of currency redesigns in Nigeria?

ROLE OF COMMUNICATION IN ENHANCING PRODUCTIVITY IN AN ORGANIZATION

ROLE OF COMMUNICATION IN ENHANCING PRODUCTIVITY IN AN ORGANIZATION

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION

Background to the Study

Effective communication is the cornerstone of any successful organization. It is the means by which ideas and information are shared between team members, departments, and leadership. Communication plays a critical role in enhancing productivity within an organization, as it enables employees to work together effectively, understand their roles and responsibilities, and create a positive work environment. In this article, we will explore the role of communication in enhancing productivity in an organization, drawing on research studies and expert opinions.

Firstly, communication facilitates collaboration and teamwork among employees, which leads to increased productivity. Research has shown that effective communication is essential for building strong relationships among team members, which in turn promotes collaboration and teamwork (Robbins & Judge, 2018). When employees can communicate effectively with each other, they can share their knowledge and expertise, resolve conflicts, and work together to achieve common goals. According to a study by the Project Management Institute (PMI), effective communication is a key factor in successful project outcomes, with 97% of respondents citing it as important (PMI, 2017).

Moreover, communication plays a vital role in ensuring that employees understand their roles and responsibilities, which is crucial for enhancing productivity. Clear communication helps employees to understand what is expected of them and what they need to do to achieve their goals (Robbins & Judge, 2018). When employees have a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities, they are more likely to feel motivated and engaged, leading to increased productivity. According to a study by Gallup, employees who strongly agree that their manager helps them to set performance goals are 69% more likely to be engaged (Gallup, 2018).

Additionally, effective communication creates a positive work environment, which is critical for enhancing productivity. When employees feel that they are heard, valued, and respected, they are more likely to be satisfied with their jobs and work harder (Robbins & Judge, 2018). According to a study by Towers Watson, companies with effective communication practices have a 47% higher total return to shareholders over a five-year period (Towers Watson, 2010). Furthermore, a positive work environment can reduce employee turnover, which can result in significant cost savings for organizations (Robbins & Judge, 2018).

In conclusion, effective communication is essential for enhancing productivity in an organization. It facilitates collaboration and teamwork, ensures that employees understand their roles and responsibilities, and creates a positive work environment. Organizations should invest in communication training and tools to improve communication among employees and create a culture of open and effective communication.

SOCIETAL PERCEPTION TO DRUG ABUSE IN AFRICA

Drug abuse has become a global issue that affects people of all races, genders, and ages. It is a significant public health concern that has a significant impact on the society, particularly in Africa. Societal perception towards drug abuse in Africa is complex and often influenced by a variety of factors, including cultural beliefs, socioeconomic status, and political climate. In this essay, we will explore the societal perception towards drug abuse in Africa, the reasons behind it, and the consequences of this perception on individuals and communities.

Societal perception towards drug abuse in Africa is often negative and associated with shame, disgrace, and criminality. This perception is shaped by various factors, including cultural beliefs, religious doctrines, and historical experiences. For instance, in many African cultures, drug use is seen as a taboo and is associated with moral decay and immorality. People who use drugs are often stigmatized, and their behavior is viewed as deviant and unacceptable.

Another factor that contributes to negative societal perception towards drug abuse in Africa is the historical experience of drug use. In the colonial era, African countries were used as a source of raw materials for the production of drugs such as opium and cannabis. The negative consequences of this exploitation, including addiction and criminal activities, have led to the negative perception of drug use in Africa.

The socioeconomic status of individuals also contributes to societal perception towards drug abuse in Africa. People living in poverty-stricken areas are more likely to use drugs as a coping mechanism for their problems. However, the negative perception of drug use in Africa often leads to social exclusion and stigma, making it difficult for individuals to seek help or access health care services.

Furthermore, the political climate in Africa also contributes to the negative perception of drug abuse. The war on drugs, for instance, has been used as a political tool by governments to gain support from their citizens. The focus of these policies has been on punishment rather than treatment, leading to a harsh stance towards drug use and criminalization of drug users.

The negative societal perception towards drug abuse in Africa has numerous consequences for individuals and communities. Firstly, it creates a culture of silence, making it difficult for individuals to seek help or access healthcare services. This lack of access to treatment often leads to the worsening of drug-related health problems, including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and mental health disorders.

Secondly, the negative perception of drug use in Africa leads to social exclusion and stigmatization of drug users. This exclusion leads to poverty, unemployment, and reduced access to education and health care services, exacerbating the cycle of drug abuse.

Lastly, the negative societal perception towards drug abuse in Africa leads to a lack of investment in drug treatment and prevention services. Governments and stakeholders often prioritize other health issues, leading to underfunding of drug prevention and treatment programs.

In conclusion, societal perception towards drug abuse in Africa is complex and influenced by various factors, including cultural beliefs, socioeconomic status, and political climate. The negative perception of drug use in Africa leads to social exclusion and stigmatization of drug users, making it difficult for individuals to seek help or access health care services. Governments and stakeholders must prioritize drug prevention and treatment services and work towards creating a positive perception of drug abuse in Africa.

The socio economic and cultural factors impeding realization of right to health survey

Introduction

The right to health is a fundamental human right recognized by international law and is enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The right to health encompasses not only the absence of disease but also includes access to healthcare services, adequate nutrition, safe water, and sanitation. However, in Nigeria, the realization of the right to health is impeded by various socio-economic and cultural factors. This thesis aims to explore the socio-economic and cultural factors that impede the realization of the right to health in Nigeria.

Socio-economic factors

Poverty is one of the most significant socio-economic factors that impede the realization of the right to health in Nigeria. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, over 40% of Nigerians live below the poverty line. Poverty limits people’s ability to access healthcare services, pay for medical treatment, and purchase essential medicines. In addition, poverty often leads to malnutrition, which can increase the risk of diseases and impair the immune system.

Unemployment and inequality are other socio-economic factors that affect the realization of the right to health in Nigeria. High unemployment rates and income inequality limit people’s ability to access healthcare services and contribute to poor health outcomes. Inequality in healthcare services also exists, with many rural areas having inadequate healthcare infrastructure and health workers.

Cultural factors

Culture plays a significant role in health-seeking behaviors in Nigeria. Traditional beliefs and practices can prevent people from seeking medical treatment or adhering to medical advice. For example, some people believe that illnesses are caused by supernatural forces, and traditional healers are more effective than modern medicine. This belief can lead to delays in seeking medical treatment, which can worsen health outcomes.

In addition, some cultural practices, such as female genital mutilation, can have negative health outcomes. Female genital mutilation increases the risk of complications during childbirth and can lead to chronic pain, infection, and even death.

Other factors

Inadequate funding for healthcare, corruption in the healthcare sector, and inadequate healthcare policies and programs also impede the realization of the right to health in Nigeria. The government’s inadequate allocation of resources to the healthcare sector has led to poor healthcare infrastructure, low morale among health workers, and inadequate medical supplies. Corruption in the healthcare sector also limits access to healthcare services and increases the cost of medical treatment.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the realization of the right to health in Nigeria is impeded by various socio-economic and cultural factors. Addressing these factors requires a multifaceted approach that involves improving healthcare infrastructure, increasing funding for healthcare, and implementing healthcare policies that are culturally sensitive and responsive. It also requires educating people about the importance of seeking medical treatment and the dangers of traditional beliefs and practices that can negatively impact health outcomes. Addressing these factors will not only improve the health outcomes of Nigerians but also ensure that everyone has access to quality healthcare services, which is their fundamental human right.

Political Science Project Topics

Political science is a broad and fascinating field of study that covers a wide range of topics, from the study of political systems to the analysis of government policies and international relations. If you are a student of political science, you may be required to undertake a research project as part of your coursework. In this blog post, we will provide you with some ideas for political science project topics.

The impact of social media on political campaigns

Social media has become an increasingly influential tool for politicians to reach out to their constituents, particularly during election campaigns. In recent years, social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have played a critical role in shaping public opinion, mobilizing voters, and even determining the outcome of elections. This essay will examine the impact of social media on political campaigns and how it has changed the way politicians engage with their constituents.

One of the most significant impacts of social media on political campaigns is the ability to reach a wider audience than traditional media channels. Social media platforms have a vast user base, which includes a diverse range of age groups, socioeconomic backgrounds, and political affiliations. This means that politicians can communicate with a more extensive and more diverse audience than they could through traditional media channels such as television or newspapers. For example, in the 2016 US presidential election, Donald Trump used Twitter to communicate directly with his followers, bypassing the traditional media and controlling the narrative around his campaign.

Another impact of social media on political campaigns is the ability to create more engaging and interactive content. Social media platforms allow politicians to share a variety of content, including videos, images, and infographics, which can help them to communicate their message more effectively. Moreover, social media enables politicians to engage with their followers in real-time, responding to their comments and questions, and building a more personal relationship with them. This, in turn, can increase engagement and encourage more people to participate in the political process.

Social media has also had a profound impact on political campaigning by enabling the targeting of specific demographic groups. Social media platforms collect vast amounts of data on their users, including their interests, behaviors, and demographics. This data can be used to target specific groups with tailored content and advertisements. For example, political campaigns can use social media to target young voters who are more likely to be active on social media and less likely to watch television. By targeting specific groups, political campaigns can more effectively communicate their message and mobilize support.

Another impact of social media on political campaigns is the potential for the spread of misinformation and fake news. Social media platforms have been criticized for their role in spreading fake news and conspiracy theories, which can influence public opinion and even undermine democratic processes. For example, during the 2016 US presidential election, fake news stories were shared widely on social media, and some have suggested that this may have influenced the outcome of the election. Social media platforms have taken steps to combat the spread of misinformation, such as introducing fact-checking measures and warning labels on posts that contain false information.

Finally, social media has changed the way that politicians engage with their constituents. Social media platforms allow politicians to communicate directly with their followers, bypassing the traditional media, and controlling the narrative around their campaign. This has given rise to a more personal and informal style of political communication, with politicians using social media to share personal stories, engage in banter, and even share jokes. This, in turn, has increased engagement and helped to humanize politicians, making them more relatable to the public.

The role of interest groups in shaping public policy

Interest groups, also known as pressure groups or advocacy groups, play a critical role in shaping public policy in democracies around the world. Interest groups are organizations that represent the interests of a particular sector or group of people and seek to influence government policies and decisions. This essay will examine the role of interest groups in shaping public policy and their impact on the policymaking process.

One of the most important roles of interest groups is to provide a voice for marginalized or underrepresented groups in society. Interest groups can represent a wide range of interests, including labor unions, environmental organizations, civil rights groups, and business associations. By organizing and mobilizing their members, interest groups can advocate for policies that reflect their interests and priorities. For example, environmental groups can lobby for policies that promote renewable energy or protect endangered species, while labor unions can advocate for higher wages and better working conditions for their members.

Another important role of interest groups is to provide information and expertise on specific policy issues. Interest groups often have a deep understanding of the issues they represent and can provide policymakers with valuable insights and analysis. For example, healthcare interest groups can provide policymakers with information on the impact of proposed healthcare policies on patients and healthcare providers, while business associations can provide insights into the potential economic impact of proposed policies.

Interest groups also play an essential role in the policymaking process by engaging in advocacy and lobbying activities. Advocacy involves raising awareness and promoting a particular policy position, while lobbying involves attempting to influence policymakers directly. Interest groups can engage in a variety of advocacy and lobbying activities, including media campaigns, public demonstrations, and direct meetings with policymakers. These activities can help to raise the profile of an issue and create momentum for policy change.

Furthermore, interest groups can have a significant impact on the policymaking process by providing financial support to political campaigns. Interest groups can donate money to political campaigns, which can influence the policymaking process by helping to elect politicians who support their policy positions. This can lead to a situation where policymakers feel pressure to support policies that benefit the interest group, even if those policies are not in the best interests of the wider public.

Finally, interest groups can also play a critical role in shaping public opinion on policy issues. Interest groups often have significant resources to devote to media campaigns and public relations activities, which can help to shape public opinion on a particular issue. By raising public awareness and promoting their policy positions, interest groups can create a climate of opinion that makes it more likely for policymakers to support their policies.

The impact of globalization on national sovereignty

Globalization, broadly defined as the increased interconnectedness and interdependence of countries, has had a profound impact on national sovereignty, which refers to the authority of a state to govern itself and its people without external interference. This essay will explore the ways in which globalization has impacted national sovereignty, including the erosion of state power and the emergence of transnational governance structures.

One of the most significant ways in which globalization has impacted national sovereignty is through the erosion of state power. The increasing flows of capital, goods, and people across borders have challenged the ability of states to control their economies, borders, and citizens. Multinational corporations and global financial markets, for example, can exert significant influence over the policies and actions of states, often to the detriment of local populations. Similarly, the movement of people across borders can challenge states’ abilities to maintain control over their populations, particularly in the context of refugee crises and mass migration.

Another way in which globalization has impacted national sovereignty is through the emergence of transnational governance structures. Global governance institutions, such as the United Nations, World Trade Organization, and International Criminal Court, have become increasingly influential in shaping global policy and regulating international affairs. These institutions operate beyond the control of individual states and often have the power to make decisions that directly impact national sovereignty, such as the imposition of trade sanctions or the authorization of military intervention. As a result, states may be forced to cede some of their authority to these institutions in order to participate in the global system.

Furthermore, globalization has led to the rise of non-state actors who can exert significant influence on global politics. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs), civil society groups, and transnational social movements have all become more prominent in recent decades, advocating for issues such as human rights, environmental protection, and social justice. These groups often work across borders and can mobilize significant resources and public support, making them powerful players in the global political landscape. As a result, states may be forced to engage with these groups and take their interests into account in order to maintain legitimacy and political power.

However, it is important to note that the impact of globalization on national sovereignty is not uniform or consistent across all states. Developed countries, with their greater economic and political power, may be better equipped to manage the challenges posed by globalization than developing countries. In addition, some states have actively embraced globalization as a means of enhancing their economic and political power, while others have resisted it.

The politics of immigration

The politics of immigration can be complex and controversial, and there are many different perspectives on this issue. Generally speaking, the politics of immigration revolve around questions of who should be allowed to enter a country, under what circumstances, and how they should be treated once they arrive.

One of the main debates around immigration is whether it is beneficial or harmful to a country’s economy and society. Supporters of immigration argue that it can bring in valuable skills and labor, and can help to diversify and enrich a country’s culture. Critics, on the other hand, argue that it can lead to job losses for native-born workers, and can strain public resources such as schools and healthcare.

Another key issue in the politics of immigration is border control and enforcement. Some argue for strict border controls and harsh penalties for illegal immigration, while others advocate for more open borders and a more lenient approach to undocumented immigrants.

The politics of immigration are often shaped by broader political and cultural trends, such as nationalism, globalization, and identity politics. In some countries, immigration has become a highly charged issue that is closely tied to questions of national identity and belonging.

Overall, the politics of immigration are likely to remain a contentious and highly debated issue for years to come.

The impact of electoral systems on political outcomes

Electoral systems can have a significant impact on political outcomes in a variety of ways. The specific rules and procedures used to conduct elections can shape the behavior of voters, political parties, and elected officials, and can influence the distribution of power and representation within a political system.

One key factor in the impact of electoral systems is the way in which they translate votes into seats. Some electoral systems, such as winner-takes-all systems, tend to produce a small number of large parties and can often result in one-party dominance. Other systems, such as proportional representation, tend to produce a larger number of smaller parties and can lead to coalition governments.

The choice of electoral system can also affect voter behavior, by influencing the way in which voters cast their ballots. For example, in a first-past-the-post system, voters may be more likely to support major parties, as they perceive smaller parties as less likely to win. In a proportional representation system, voters may be more willing to support smaller parties, as they know that their vote will not be wasted.

Another way in which electoral systems can impact political outcomes is through the effects of gerrymandering. Gerrymandering is the practice of manipulating electoral district boundaries to favor one party over another, and can lead to significant distortions in representation.

Overall, the choice of electoral system can have a profound impact on the way in which democracy functions, and can shape the outcomes of elections and the behavior of politicians and voters alike.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MICRO TEACHING AND MACRO TEACHING

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MICRO TEACHING AND MACRO TEACHING

Micro teaching and macro teaching are two distinct approaches to teaching that differ in terms of their scope, focus, and methods.

Micro teaching is a teaching technique that involves breaking down a lesson into smaller segments, with a focus on specific skills or concepts. It is often used to train new teachers or to improve the teaching skills of experienced teachers. In micro teaching, the focus is on the teacher and the specific skills they need to develop, such as classroom management, lesson planning, or instructional strategies. The approach is usually limited to a small group of learners, and the teacher receives feedback on their performance to improve their teaching skills.

In contrast, macro teaching is a broader approach to teaching that involves designing and implementing a complete course or curriculum. The focus is on the learners and their overall educational needs. Macro teaching covers a wide range of topics and skills, and it is often used in formal education settings, such as schools or universities. In macro teaching, the teacher must plan and organize the course, including determining the learning objectives, selecting appropriate teaching methods, and assessing student performance.

The following are some key differences between micro teaching and macro teaching:

  1. Scope: Micro teaching focuses on a specific lesson or skill, while macro teaching covers a broader range of topics and skills.
  2. Methods: Micro teaching is often conducted in a controlled environment, such as a training workshop, while macro teaching takes place in a more dynamic and unpredictable setting, such as a classroom.
  3. Focus: Micro teaching focuses on the teacher and their teaching skills, while macro teaching focuses on the learners and their educational needs.
  4. Evaluation: Micro teaching is evaluated through feedback and observation, while macro teaching is evaluated through various assessment methods, such as exams, projects, and assignments.

In summary, while both micro teaching and macro teaching are valuable teaching techniques, they differ in their scope, methods, focus, and evaluation. Micro teaching is a more focused approach to teaching, while macro teaching is a broader and more comprehensive approach.
